Gotta get the braids

I know that it may be the trend for some people to get ‘Ze Dreads‘ or the ‘Ze Braids‘ while vacationing on the beach, but that’s just not the look I’m going for.

When I talk about wanting to get the braids, I’m talking about the two SUPER long braids that the local school girls sport on a school day. They all have super long, thick, black hair that seems like it has never been cut. They all coif it exactly the same way, and I mean EXACTLY the same way. Two regular braids (no fancy stuff like French Braids or the like) that start low and fall lankily on either side of their slender bodies. I really wonder if it’s a rule from the schools or if it’s just a fashion trend and ALL (without exception, that I could see so far) the girls are wearing The Braids to school. Some have little colourful ribbons tied at the bottom which adds a nice accent…But even then, all the girls from the same school have the same ribbon.

The fact that their braids are perfect seems to match the way they wear their uniforms. It’s really interesting to see the mass of school kids walking or biking home on the narrow roads with their uniforms worn very neatly. Each school has its own uniform, and pretty much everyone wears it the same way: T-shirt tucked in, skirts exactly below knee length, black shoes, perfect braids and smiling while chatting with their buddies, with broom in hand (don’t ask me why, haven’t figured that out yet…)

Hey, watch it! Motorbike coming!

I know that if I were to wear a uniform, I would be doing little things to add my own flare to it – Gotta express myself and have my own look!

I really wonder if the low braids is aΒ  rule from the schools or if it’s just a fashion trend and ALL the girls (without exception, that I could see so far) are sporting braids to school.

Although I may not follow all the rules regarding the uniform (especially the ‘keeping it clean’ part – shuuut! Don’t tell my mom), I would definitely wear theΒ  braids. Unfortunately, my hair is still not long enough – I’m still growing it out, but one day I’m going to be flaunting my own set of braids too πŸ˜‰

School girl walking home - with 2 braids of course!

Did you say Nemo?

A few weeks ago, mom’s friend came to visit us in Bali. She figured out pretty quickly that I love animals and that I particularly like imitating their sounds. As a result, she thought that I would be interested in learning on how to look like Nemo (the cartoon fish!)

She’s gone back home now, but I’m stilly practicing the Nemo-Lip-Pout. I think it might come in handy if ever I want to pursue a modeling career – gotta learn how to do the pouty-lip thing, Γ  la Angelina Jolie!

Viva Glam Pink lips

Missoni F/W 2011

I’m really excited to have discovered a natural way of getting the hottest, kissable lips here in Bali. Rather than going for red or nude, I’ve opted to go Pink this spring, as presented by M.A.C. for Missoni’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection.

Rather than going with expensive cosmetic brands such as M.A.C, Nars, Chanel, Dior, etc. to get my look, I’ve discovered the Dragon Fruit. It’s perfect for spring as they are in season here in Bali during the month of March.

Note that there are two types of dragon fruits, white (Putih) or Red (Merah) – so be sure to get the right one for your desired look!

Red dragon fruit

Although the application technique can be a little messy, the final look is great and the fun part is that they taste yummy as well. What more can you ask for, something to fill your tummy and gives you a trendy look at the same time. I’ve also tried using beet, but it doesn’t taste so great and there’s more prep work required. You need to boil them first, where as the dragon fruit is ready-to-go, so you can be ready for that party in less than 5 minutes!

I keep the rest of my ‘makeup’ natural, so the lips get the full attention…Like the pros recommend, only highlight your eyes or your lips, but not both at the same time – but heck, I say you should do whatever makes you feel good πŸ™‚

Don’t forget to lick your lips for the full glossy effect!
